The Green Mountain Boys came from what is today Vermont, and took their name from the Green Mountains of the state.  The revolutionaries were led by Ethan Allen and by 1770 had become an armed militia force.  Five years later the Green Mountain Boys captured the British held Fort Ticonderoga, which was America's first victory in the Revolutionary War.
