Kazakhstan Flag

The Kazakhstan flag was appointed on January 24, 1996, and was the result of a national contest.  The blue color represents sky, water and also cultural and ethnic unity.  The sun is pictured and symbolizes life and energy.  There are 32 rays surrounding the sun and these represent abundance and prosperity.  Koshkar-muiz, (horns of the ram) Kazakhstan's national ornamental pattern, is on the left side of the national flag.
